The Dispossessed

This classic science fiction novel--part analysis of utopian ideals vs. dystopian realities, part political comparison of anarchism and capitalism--details the internal struggle of a brilliant scientist whose new mathematics are about to bring about a radical change in communication. As Shevek, the scientist, moves between two worlds--a planet and the moon that orbits it--he finds that the diametrical opposition of each world's political, social, and religious structures has left him isolated. Though not dependent on the earlier books, this is the fifth in the Hainish series. Winner of the 1974 Nebula Award, and the 1975 Locus Poll and Hugo awards.
