When the Confederacy needs to convince the Silsviss to join them in their battle against the Others, they send skilled diplomats, along with a group of Marines to protect them. When the mission goes horribly wrong, the Marines find that they are fighting for more than their lives--the safety of the Confederacy is at stake.
