Using magical gifts inherited from her Indian mother, Maya Witherspoon, a half-Brahmin woman (her father was English), sets up a medical practice in London. Meanwhile, her aunt--who practices the dark arts of Kali worship and objected to the mixed marriage of Maya`s parents--arrives in town to prevent her granddaughter from learning more about her skills.
