Lawrence Newton is a mercenary employed by Zantiu-Braun, a corporation that collects unpaid debts from interstellar colonies. Newton and his Third Fleet set out for the planet Thrallspring, where the residents are more than prepared to defend their planet and its assets from this usurious and monolithic corporation known for taking hostages and land stripping in their efforts to recover licensing fees. Tired of being passed up for promotion by Zantiu-Braun, Newton concocts a renegade plan to loot a weapons cache on Thrallspring and retire on the score.
