Tiny elemental creatures called kigh grant favors to bards who sing their requests. The king's younger sister has renounced her family to become a bard and practice this art. Meanwhile, the Duc of Ohrid's aunt schemes to have the king executed as a traitor. Cemendia, a neighboring country, executes anyone suspected of singing the kigh; and it is from Cemendia that the aunt plots to overpower the king and usurp his kingdom of Shkoder.
