An alternate history tale in which the United States, in 1881, wages war against the Confederacy, which won its independence at the Battle of Antietam in 1862. The U.S. is outraged that the Confederacy has purchased a portion of northern Mexico. Noteworthy Americans such as Samuel Clemens, Theodore Rooselvelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Frederick Douglass all make appearances.
