Young Francois goes to work for a blind beekeeper, M. Huber, and remains with him for a decade. During that time, he becomes indispensable to his employer. He also finds himself attracted to Mme. Huber--a feeling that brings him only agony, as he attempts to do the right thing by everyone involved. When it finally comes time for Francois to leave and fend for himself, he realizes that during his stay with the Hubers he has found not only employment, but maturity and a life's work.
