When the U.S. president refuses to take any action to stop a comet headed straight for the moon, the debris from the collision rains down on Earth, causing massive natural disasters worldwide. After the president dies in an accident, Vice President Charlie Haskell steps up to lead the nation, and has to figure out what to do about the huge chunk of moon that will destroy the Earth, unless its course can be altered.
