The two SF novellas contained in this book are set in the same universe as the author's Revelation Space novels. In Diamond Dogs a team of explorers investigates the planet Golgotha's Blood Spire, a mysterious artifact constructed as a series of puzzles, with life-threatening consequences for incorrect solutions. Turquoise Days concerns a researcher's attempt to protect the ocean of planet Turquoise from a spaceship crew's attempt to exploit it for their own warlike purposes. The ocean contains groups of the tiny alien beings known as the Pattern Jugglers, who store the minds of all intelligent creatures who have entered the ocean...including the researcher's missing sister.
