This omnibus of four books--whose internal chronological order is THEY SHALL HAVE STARS (written in 1956), A LIFE FOR THE STARS (1962), EARTHMAN, COME HOME (1955), and THE TRIUMPH OF TIME (1958)--consists of what is arguably Blish's most important contribution to science fiction. Set in several flying cities, they detail social, political, and technological future histories loosely modeled on life in 1930s Dustbowl Oklahoma.
