Life as a colonist in Martian school offers few thrills, and colonist Terpischore Murray wants to quit school and do what her father does: eco-prospect. Her father has other ideas, and sensing her waywardness, he asks her to aid him in conducting a field trip with a group of younger students. Disaster looms and Terpischore will have to lead the children to safety alone--and face the wilds of Mars in a journey that will define her future and that of human history.
